This is the information for the village of Müggenburg, the village of my Goosmann ancestors, from census records of Mecklenburg-Schwerin in 1819. Friedrich Goosmann was my great great grandfather. The census was taken on August 30, 1819. Although this particular census taker did not show the maiden name of the married females, some of the villages show that on the census as well. Müggenburg had 31 residents at this time. It was the dairy farm for the nobleman who lived at a castle in Bülow.

Following the list of residents is an analysis which explains some of the information that can be gleaned from this census. Keep in mind that there was a great deal of destruction in Mecklenburg during the period of 1813-1815 when Napoleon's troops went through. Many people had to move during and after that time. After the analysis, the film numbers for the 1819 census are explained and listed.

The Goosmann family: Friedrich was born in Badegow. He came to Muggenburg in 1800 as a hauswirt (tenant farmer where lease passed from father to son.) He took over the hauswirt tenancy when his father died. At the time of this census, Friedrich and Dorothee have been married for only 2 months. At the end of the family we see that when they were married, Dorothee brought with her a daughter, Elizabeth Blank, who was born in Klinken where her mother had lived. This was probably an illegitimate child. The other children are Friedrich's children by prior marriages.

The Ahrens family: We see that the family moved to Muggenburg in 1813. Son, Johann, was born in 1812 in Klein Pritz, parish of Mestlin, so the family lived there previously. We also notice that Heinrich, the head of the family, was born in Muggenburg. Since he is a hauswirt, he probably returned in 1813 to take over the hauswirt tenancy from his father. Living with this family is Johann Ahrens who was born in 1802. This is probably a younger brother of Heinrich.

The Schroeder family: Johann Schroder and his daughter have lived in Muggenburg for 2 years. The daughter was born in Dehmen in 1812, so we know they were living there at that time. Hedwig Schmidt has been in Muggenburg two years also and is apparently Johann Schroeder's mother-in-law. This would mean that his wife's maiden name may have been Schmidt (assuming the mother-in-law did not marry again.)

The Lange family: Although Heinrich Lange was born in Bulow, which is very close to Muggenburg and in the same parish, he was living in Kolpin, parish Kladow, in 1811 when son Heinrich was born. By 1813 he was in Muggenburg.

The Ehlert family: This family has been in Muggenburg for 3 years. Daughter, Marie, was born in Dehmen in 1813, so we know they lived in Dehmen previously.
